PARNELL FARO DECKS ~ COATED DECKS ~ CHIPS/CHECKS ~ FARO DEALING BOXES

Welcome Friends,
Through the course of my years as "websmith" for the Barbary Coast Vigilance Committee, I have created and hosted several informational webpages on a variety of topics relating to old west reenactment and the sport of Cowboy Action Shooting. In addition to the very popular BCVC CAS FAQ, I have done significant research on San Francisco history, traditional hat etiquette, the general topic of 18th Century gambling and, more specifically, the history and rules of the traditional old west game of faro. I have received a lot of feedback from readers of each of these webpages, some from students and much of it from serious Civil War reenactors and Cowboy Action Shooters, such as myself. The one inquiry I have received the most, overall, is, "..where can I get faro equipment?"

Well, after many years of sending intrepid visitors, saloon gamblers and future faro dealers here-and-there to various vendors and resellers, I decided it was about time I took the tiger by the tail and made some effort to offset some of my expenses for research and webpage overhead. Over the past 5 or 6 years, I have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours researching, creating and maintaining these many informational pages. And, while I only make a couple of bucks off each sale here, it could help to keep things going into the future. The bonus here is that we can also ensure you won't be buying some crappy merchandise that will end up being a waste of your time, money and effort!
I will only stock items that I use myself. Products that I have found to be of quality construction that will stand the test of time and the rigors of a hard saloon life. Hey, you might save a few bucks buying low-end equipment elsewhere or experimenting, as I have done in the past. But, in the long run, you will undoubtedly regret it. I have found out the hard way that even some of the most expensive stuff available can be just plain crappy! Let me assure you; price is no measure or certification that a product is good or that it will hold up to the rigors of serious use.

Over the years, I have purchased dozens of different "Civil War Era" playing card decks and to be honest, most of them are crap. What's the difference between a crappy $6 Civil War poker deck and a crappy $24 Civil War poker deck? Simple answer, 18 BUCKS! Now that I have found the very best period-correct reproduction old west faro decks, as well as some fantastic coated reproduction 1862-1865 era decks, how do I recoup the $150+/- that I have spent doing all my "research"? Well, I set up a wholesale deal with the manufacturers and I buy in quantity, then sell these quality decks to you for a couple of bucks over cost! After I sell about 75 decks, I guess I'll be about even on that score!

I have also added clay composite chips (checks) to my supply. Believe me when I tell you I searched high-and-low to find a quality clay composite resin chip that would pass for those used in saloons 130 to 150 years ago. After a lot more (somewhat expensive) trial and error, I have done it! I found these fantastic 9 gram diamond embossed clay composite chips. I also located an 11.5 gram inlaid suited chip that is a bit more expensive and much closer to a contemporary casino chip, but still has the old-time clay composite look and feel. Both certainly are excellent choices and I am sure you will be pleased with the selection as well as the combo sets I have put together on the chip page.. er, check page. I really should refer to them as checks and not chips, huh? 9 gram Diamond Pattern11.5 gram Suited Pattern
I am proud to announce that I have recently added faro dealing boxes to my supply. As any faro dealer will tell you, the key to a good faro dealing box is quality construction and smooth function. These particular boxes are brass and come in unfinished brass as well as silver plated brass. A good dealing box is an essential component of an authentic period-correct faro bank and necessary for any serious faro dealer. These boxes are the best quality I have found anywhere. They look good and work great!

I have come to the realization that I am not going to become rich. So, now that I have reached that disappointing conclusion, what's left?    Have fun!   So, I have fun playing faro and teaching faro and getting quality equipment as cheap as possible and I hope to help you to do the same. In the meantime, I am working with a few people to try to produce some good quality reproduction felt faro layouts and quality handmade case keepers. These items are very difficult to find (of good quality) and it may take a while to get products produced or located that meet my high standards. Until then, please bear with me and have a little fun! Stop and smell the roses, play with your dog, play faro with your friends and do whatever it is in life that makes you happy (unless you are a serial killer).
